My cats... getting along?

Yes, I'm afraid the end times are upon us, my friends! On Sunday I snapped this shocking photo -- my two cats, lying pleasantly side-by-side! Usually Lira can't stand Topher, and will stay quite far away from him. For them to be lying next to each other was quite shocking. At first I attributed this to some magic power of the pants they were lying on (someday, Chris will stop leaving his dirty clothes on the couch). However, hours later, when the pants had been removed, I found them like this:
What could cause this sudden and unexpected feline unity? I'm fairly certain that they've heard me talking about my desire to get a dog, and they've decided that they must join together to combat the canine menace. It was a warm day, so it's not like they were snuggled up to share body heat.

They've since returned to their usual animosity, so I suppose whatever truce they had shattered quite quickly. It was nice while it lasted, though.

Anyway, I'm about to head off to the bank to sign some home loan paperwork. It's quite exciting!

  1. Oh, mortgage paperwork! Exciting in the beginning, then just another bill. ;)

The cats do look like they were happy together on Sunday. Maybe it *was* the pants and their smell stayed long enough for the second picture.

  2. Tell Topher and Lira to cross their paws -- the vet has Shiva out in the mobile clinic (I can hear him complaining). He hasn't eaten at all for 24 hours and has lost a bit of weight. I really hope this isn't more renal failure.

  3. I'm thinking good thoughts for Shiva. Please let me know what the vet says! Hugs to you and the kitties.

  5. The vet didn't call, but given the state of airplanes at the moment, that could be for many reasons. Shiva ate until about 10pm and I think the steriod shot wore off then. He hasn't been eating since, but he is drinking, and I've gotten two doses of antibiotic in so far. Another day or so and he should feel better enough to eat again. I get to make him finish out the antibiotic.

  6. Giving antibiotics to cats is never any fun! Is it amoxicillin? I had to give that to Lira twice over the years, and both times she ended up with pink stains on her white fur. The Toph is a healthy boy, and has never needed any meds so far *knock on wood.*

I hope that Shiva is feeling better soon. Luckily he has a little weight to spare :)

  7. No, it's Clindamycin, and it's clear, which is good. He's still not happy about getting it, but not trying to kill me, either. He's eating dry food fine, but doesn't want to eat the wet food with Spirit. So maybe that part is psychological. I called the vet today, but her message says she won't answer until Tuesday.

  8. Are kitties ever happy to be getting medicine?

I'm glad that he's eating again! Yay for Shiva!

  9. He pooped last night, too! And finished off my soup! The vet called today, his bloodwork is perfect, so I just need to give the meds until I run out, then try to get his mouth open and see if there are ulcers. I'm not sure how I'm going to do that.

  10. That sounds like it might be a two person job. Maybe you can get someone like Marsha to come over and help?
