Earrings in a Treasury!

My Midnight Dancer tribal chandelier earrings (pictured above) are in Beadmask's beautiful Labyrinth-themed treasury Dance the Magic Dance. Labyrinth has been one of my favorite movies since I was old enough to form opinions. We must have watched it at least once a year when I was a kid, and it's largely responsible for my love of the fantasy genre and the art of Brian Froud. I somehow never became a Bowie fan, though.

So please visit the treasury, click a few items, make a comment if you feel moved to, and definitely visit Beadmask's shop! I've loved Andrea's work since way before Etsy! She's so talented.

And while you're at it, pop over to my shop, Handmade Jewelry by Erthe Fae Designs. Any purchases made within the next week will go straight to purchasing supplies at the gem, mineral and bead shows. My first shopping trip is tomorrow! Woohoo!

Fantastic FAE Team!

I've been so busy lately that I keep forgetting to direct you all to the newest FAE Team exhibition, To Melt Winter's Heart. I've also been to busy to submit anything to said exhibition, so you won't see any of my work among the beautiful items.

Things are going great with the FAE Team. We've had a change in administrators, resulting in an influx of new members and new ideas, and our new blog is going strong. Today I posted a review of The Wolfman, which fits well with our monthly dare theme of Hunger Moon.

Speaking of Hunger Moon (aka Snow Moon), I missed the deadline for that, too. I'll have to make a piece and sneak it in late!

Random

I'm finding it hard to blog lately, don't know why. I guess that's what I get for taking so many days off for the holidays, now it's not a daily habit anymore. Got to get back to it!

So, recent goings-on... Last night we went and saw a movie called Red Cliff, which was based on a famous battle from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. At times it was very good, and at times it was not, and at times I was like "Huh, what just happened?" Then I looked at IMDB and saw that it had been two movies, which they spliced together into one for Western audiences. I for one feel shorted.

Our gym started a new schedule, where you have a "home class" on certain days at a certain time, and that's when you go to the gym. No more 2:30 one day, 5pm another. On the other hand, no more having to keep each and every trainer in the loop as to just how bad I am at squats, so I guess that's good. Plus the trainer for the class I chose is the same one who has been doing Chris's personal training while his thumb heals, and he said that Chris could just come to the same class as me.

Speaking of the broken thumb, tomorrow the doctor will have another look at it and see if it's healed yet. If not, Chris may be able to just have a soft cast, instead of the ugly, smelly hard one that gets in the way of everything.

I haven't beaded or danced yet this year, and I definitely need to change that.

Well, that's about all for now...

Saw Avatar Today

Chris and I went out to see Avatar today. We decided to catch a 3D showing, and although a lot of people were at the theater to see Sherlock Holmes, our screening was pretty full, too.

The movie is beautiful, with lots of interesting plants and creatures, many of which glow with eye-popping phosphorescent hues, making every night time scene resemble Mother Nature's biggest rave party. I can definitely see why they made a tie-in video game, because the world is just dying to be explored, what with the wide branches, giant leaves, and floating mountains... actually, at times, it honestly felt like I was watching a video game.

Aside from the marvelous graphics, I found it to be entertaining but not amazing. Even at almost 3 hours long the movie had to jump around a lot in time to fit in everything it wanted to, and at times my mind had to scramble to fill in the blanks. I think it might have worked better as a two-part movie, a la Kill Bill, as it would have allowed more time for character development and backstory.

The action sequences were really intense, and while there's not really any gore, a lot of people and creatures die very violent deaths. This, combined with more exposed native boobs than a year's worth of National Geographic means that this is really not a kid's movie, no matter what McDonald's seems to think. It's a shame, because I think kids would really love the super-colorful and imaginative world of Pandora*, but might be scared by the big battles (my personal feeling is that the boobs won't harm their delicate little psyches, but I'm not big on anti-boob-stigma). It would be nice if in addition to the video game and Happy Meal Toys, they had made a kiddie movie to go with the adult movie.

But really, when you strip away the amazing graphics, the alien world, and the machine-gun laden ships, this is Fern Gully for adults, and the heavy-handed message and black-and-white moral view point is what kept me from being truly in love with it.

*Seriously, enough with the name Pandora, guys. Go mine Greek mythology for some new planet names. I'm sure Borderlands and Avatar aren't the only ones to use it, just the only ones I've encountered. This year.

Driving like a driving fool.

Just a quick update for those who are cheering along my driving progress... Though I'm not quite ready for rush hour yet, I'm at the point where I'm confident enough to drive on any road in Tucson now. I'm still having a little trouble getting the right speed for turns, and my parking skills are atrocious, but I can get around town. Chris is of course taking advantage of this ;)

In other news, we saw 9 today, and it was really awesome. Gorgeous graphics, engaging story, lots of suspenseful action. I'll save my full review for the e-zine I write for, but I do highly recommend it. Just bear in mind that it may be too intense for little kids! There's plenty of death and scary robot monsters.

More Owl Love

There's a quirky Chicago-style pizza and Italian food restaurant a few blocks from my house that always has silly phrases on their marquee. This weekend it read "The Owls Are Not What They Seem." I'm not sure if that's a pro- or anti-owl statement, but it made me decide that Athena's Familiar should be today's Daily Special!

Not only am I happy with how this necklace came out, but Chris really likes it, too. It's sitting here on my desk, and the other day he said "I do like that pendant... in fact, the whole necklace is pretty cool." Of course, it's also far too girly for a meaty-thewed barbarian like him to wear. Some of my work is unisex, but this is definitely one for the ladies.

In other news, my abs and shoulders are hurting from yesterday's yoga work out. I like to think that my abs are in better-than-average shape, what with my love for chest lifts and rib circles in my dancing, but clearly I was using them in new and unusual ways yesterday. I'm hoping to dance tonight, and hopefully that will work some of these aches out.

Also, Up was pretty good. A little too silly at points, but I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't afraid to be sad or serious at times, it has a big airship, and lots of dog humor.

Yay, yoga.

A really quick post because we're about to take off to see Up.

First, today's Daily Special is Pearl Branch. I love this bracelet, but it's very short, so it's been waiting for the right person with the right tiny wrist!

This afternoon Chris and I went to a yoga class at his gym, and it was a lot of fun, so we'll be going every Sunday. Yoga is great for bellydancers, as it increases flexibility and balance, so I'm very happy to find a place to take it just a few blocks from my house.

And now, movie time!

Website temporarily down

I somehow always manage to forget that my domain registration expires before my web hosting does. As such, my site went down sometime today, and I'll need to get Chris to help me bring it back up tonight.

I'm probably going to switch hosts this month, too. I don't know if there will be any downtime involved in that. I've been more or less content with the host that I've had for the past few years, but Chris says the host he uses for his business is much better, and since he does more back-end stuff with my site, I feel I should be using the host that has the options he likes.

While I was quiet all last week, I was getting some things done: beading rivolis, writing my book, considering a second blog project, and preparing to adopt a dog. Yes, as little as my cats will like it, it is time to add a canine member to this household. There are a few more things I need to do to get the house ready for a dog, but in the meantime I spent most of Saturday reading Dogs For Dummies. I learned a lot of nice little things that will make dog-ownership easier for Chris and I, and better for our pets, too. Stay tuned for more on this story as it progresses.

One other thing I did was finally go see The Dark Knight with Chris. I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't find it to be quite as awesome as everyone said it was. In fact, I found that it really dragged on, especially at the end. I guess it didn't help that by the time we factored in the trailers, we were in the theater for nearly 3 hours to see the movie. It practically needed an intermission, though I suppose that might have removed some of the tension from the movie. Over all, while it was good, I didn't find myself wowed like I expected to be. Hellboy II gave me much more bang for my buck.

Today is feeling like a good day for some beading, so I think I'll go do that now.

Comic Con Articles

Nothing says Comic Con quite like posing with a random guy just because you like his costume! Actually, this guy was pretty cool. I saw him from behind and I could tell that he had a great outfit going on. When he turned around, I caught his eye and he walked over to me, saying something along the lines of "I recognize the fair folk." So when I asked to take his picture, he offered to pose with me and have Chris take it.

I'm not sure if he meant to be Robin Hood or just an English-style archer, but he looked great. The vest and armor are leather, and I'm pretty sure his bow was functional. This was just one of the many great costumes I saw at the convention. I hope to get all of my pictures up into a Flickr album soon. In the meantime, if you want a full shot of my faerie costume, check out my new profile picture.

If you've been waiting for more details on my Comic Con adventure, today is your lucky day! The new issue of Collector Times went up last night, and I have four convention-related articles:
Gaming at the convention
A review of The Mutant Chronicles
Steampunk at the Convention
Webcomics at the Convention

Ok, that should keep you busy while I run off and bead!

Things and Stuff.

I had quite the busy weekend. We had my parents over for a BBQ Sunday night, so I spent the weekend cleaning, running errands, and arranging the house. The BBQ was a success, which made us both very happy. We've had friends drop by for visits to see the house, but this was our first time hosting something semi-official, and Chris's first time grilling.

Today I was feeling pretty run down, partially due to all those errands and cleaning, so I decided to be lazy. I got pretty much nothing done. Tomorrow I need to be much more productive. I'm hoping to maybe even get back to beading tomorrow. At some point this week, I want to put some more work into setting up my bead/sewing/craft room. Of course, I'll get it done just in time to leave for Comic Con... but at least I'll be all set to be productive when I get back!

I'm pretty excited about the convention. I've been getting lots of e-mails about different panels, previews, and demos, most of which I'm not very interested in. I know there will be things that interest me there, I'm just not getting e-mailed about them. I even got a CALL today about some presentation about two movies. The funny thing is that I know the book one of them is based on is very popular, and the movie is highly anticipated, but I just don't care. And the other movie is a stupid raunchy comedy, which overwhelms any curiosity about whether the first movie is all it's cracked up to be.

I just have to hope that my new faerie wings arrive in the mail before the convention! I can wear my costume without them, but it won't be as much fun.

Evil Steampunk Faeries!!!!!

Yes, I'm finally back to blogging, and what brought me back is the need to tell you about the awesomeness of Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Did I mention the evil steampunk faeries? Oh yeah, that's right, it's the title of the post. Seriously. The movie needed more of 'em. Like non-stop nothing but evil steampunk faeries. They were pretty amazing, what with their weapons and weird facial scars and army of indestructible robots. Sure, I guess the good guys were cool, too, and they also had some rather steampunk gear at their disposal, but they weren't faeries. It's hard to compete with that.

I have to say, the movie's main weakpoint was the drama between the characters, which felt kind of cliche and predictable. Everything else was very well-done. Good acting, amazing effects, sweet action scenes. Lots of faeries, trolls, and goblins. Cool sets. Neato weapons. And a few laugh-out-loud moments. Also, faeries princesses have awesome fashion sense. How I want that blue dress!

If I had to make one actual complaint about Hellboy II, it's that the trailers (which I've seen repeatedly) show pretty much every single faerie and creature that's in the movie. Sure, you get to see more of them and learn about them in the film, but there were very few surprises, you know? How much cooler would they have been if I hadn't already seen them a dozen times? Granted, the trailers got me all fired up about the movie, but they could have done that without showing me everything.

In non evil steampunk faerie news, we're still settling into the house. It takes forever to unpack and figure out where we want everything! I'm enjoying life here, though there's certainly a lot more work involved than in apartment life. Much more cleaning, and a yard to maintain, in addition to all the work of settling in. The work is worth the reward, however. It's so much nicer and quieter here, and I definitely feel a lot of pride of ownership.

Not a lot of beading going on, and I'm clearly just not going to get around to updating this month. I have a lot of BFAC stuff going on, plus I'm going to Comic Con in less than 2 weeks. I haven't even been writing much lately. Or dancing. The lack of creative outlet is getting to me, though, so I'm going to try to set some time aside this weekend.

More tomorrow. I don't want to write a novel.

Friday, June 06, 2008

Did I take pictures? No.

Ok, I promise I'll take pictures tomorrow, unless something catastrophic happens. I should have plenty of time, since I don't game on Saturdays anymore, but Chris does. I'll have the apartment to myself. Just me and 50 billion boxes.

Actually, I've been saving the latest issue of Bead and Button for tomorrow, so I'll have some fun reading time. And I'll work on the bezel again. And of course, pack and clean. But a gal's got to have some fun on the weekend, you know?

We're supposed to have our walk-through on Tuesday. The current tenants of the house are supposed to be out by Monday, but so far they haven't budged. I sure hope they have a busy weekend of moving ahead of them. If all goes well, we close on Wednesday and move on Friday. And then... you won't see much of me, because it may take 2 weeks to get a cable connection at the new house, and I don't have any sort of dial-up.

One thing's for certain, without internet, I'll make a lot of progress on unpacking and settling into the house.

The house! One week from this very moment, I can be getting ready to spend the first night sleeping in my very own house. Amazing!

In non-amazing news, we watched War today. You know, Jet Li movies have a lot of action. So do Jason Statham movies. One might expect that a movie with both actors would feature twice as much action, but there's only so much action you can have in one film. So you could at least reasonably expect that a Li-Statham flick would have at least as much action as a film with only one of these men. But somehow... somehow... it's as if their action star statuses canceled each other out. They spend most of the running time doing things other than kicking the crap out of each other. There's double-crosses and car chases and gun battles and investigation scenes and flashbacks and attractive ladies and gratuitous breast shots, but the martial arts don't come out until the end. And when they do, they're pretty mediocre. It was essentially a waste of time, but I'm a sucker for anything with Jet Li in it. Yes, this means that I have to go see that stupid Mummy movie, too. Curses!

A night out.

So remember how I had all the books packed? Yeah, I went out and bought more tonight. Darn it! I think I've got to stay away from the bookstore until we move. In addition to the latest Bead and Button magazine. I grabbed a symbol dictionary (useful for researching the meaning of things that I use in my jewelry), and a how-to on origami jewelry. Nifty. Perhaps I can fit them into one of the already-packed boxes.

The funny thing was when we checked out, and the cashier was all "This is going to sound strange, but I totally saw you guys last Saturday at Takamatsu." And it did sound strange, because last Saturday Chris was at gaming, I was at home, and we haven't been to Takamatsu since we discovered Blue Wasabi. We'd heard of our doppelgangers before, when two friends of ours saw doubles of almost our entire circle of friends at IHOP, but this was the first we knew of them also being a couple. I suppose it could, in fact, be our doubles from an alternate dimension. I just hope they're not our evil doubles, because then we might get framed for a diamond heist.

As part of our evening out, we saw Iron Man. While I'm not sure if it was quite as awesome as I'd heard, it was a fun evening. And apparently everyone else in the theater was seeing Sex and the City, so we had the place almost entirely to ourselves. This other group came in at one point and sat right in front of us, of course, which led to some fun jokes, but they were nice and quiet throughout. I wish all of my movie-going experiences were this pleasant.

Just don't get me started on our adventure spending 10 minutes trying to get into a package locker at the post office, thanks to a stupid bent key. We're going to have to drive all the way down there again tomorrow. If it's once again a small priority box that would have fit in my PO Box, I will be a bit peeved at the USPS.

Because I'm a geek, that's why!

What did I spend my long weekend doing? Mostly playing Guild Wars, working on this huge multi-part quest to get a mini-pet. At this rate, I'll finish the quest right about in time for Guild Wars 2 to come out at the end of the year.

I also read my last issue of SteamPunk Magazine. I don't really agree with all of the viewpoints put forward in their articles, but I really enjoy the how-tos and most of the fiction -- especially the serials. I'm a sucker for serial fiction, I guess it comes from growing up with comic books. Issue #4 also had a great article on the interactions and overlapping between Gothic and Steampunk subcultures. Since I'm sort of Goth, and leaning towards Steampunk, it was very informative and thought-provoking for me. Anyway, now I'm sad because I read all the issues. Chris wants me to read some astrophysics book next. Do I have the only husband in the world who finds reading science nerd books sexy? Probably not, but I'm sure he's in a minority. A really tiny minority.

And another thing is that we finally watched The Mist. My reaction was a resounding "meh." I expected a little more tension, but I never felt suspenseful at all. I have a feeling that it functioned better as a novella (which I've never read, my Stephen King experience is pretty spotty, based on which of his books have been within reach when I've been bored and sick and had nothing else to read). I couldn't help but think, though, that the really large monster near the end moved and sounded a lot like the one in Cloverfield. Maybe they're related.

Tomorrow it's back to lots of packing and cleaning. I'm having a bit of trouble with Guild Wars on this machine, so Chris is going to give me his desktop (he does everything on his laptop now), but that means a lot of desk-rearranging and also transferring of files. Fun.

It's my birthday, you're invited to my party down the hall.

I'm really growing to love photography! How do you like this little glamor shot? It's a teaser for my newest necklace, Guildmistress. Click the link to see two full images. This is the choker I've been talking about all week, and I am so happy to be able to share her with you. It's all I can do not to wear her to dinner tonight!

By the way, I've had those pretty blue teardrops for years. I'm glad to have finally found the perfect necklace for them.

As the topic says, today is my birthday! I'm now 26, which feels about the same as 25 so far. I had originally planned to have a birthday sale, but I'm already having a moving sale (remember! use code "moving" for 20% off!). So instead, I'm having a birthday contest! Isn't that more fun? The first person to post a comment with the name of the song referenced in the title, and the artist who performed it, will win a crystal bracelet! You can either pick one from my site, or get a custom one in any colors you want (as long as beads come in those colors. No Colour Out of Space bracelet, sorry).

I haven't forgotten that I promised a link to my review of Forbidden Kingdom.

There are more things I want to talk about, but I'll save them for tomorrow. I'm on my way out for a nice birthday dinner with my dearest.

I'd still rather be reading.

Iron Council is long. I've been reading it since Friday night and I'm still not done. So I'm sitting here making myself do stuff that I should be doing, instead of spending all night reading. Clearly, I have decided that I like the book after all. The third section turned out to be a helluva lot more interesting than the first and second.

Last night we took our friend Alex out for dinner and a movie in honor of his birthday. Usually we just do dinner, but we all wanted to see Forbidden Kingdom, and it was more convenient to do both on the same night. The movie wasn't as bad as I expected, and one of the things that I need to do tonight is write a review of it. I'll post a link to it on Thursday, when it should be up on the 'zine. Dinner was Thai food. Of the three Thai places I've tried in the past few months, this one was clearly the best. The food was amazing, the portions were generous, the service was good, and even though it was crowded, they brought our food quickly and kept our drinks full. All in all, a good night.

The choker has been coming along very well. It will also be posted on Thursday, when I update my site. I'd hoped to finish it today, but my eyes are feeling a little tired so I'll probably do it tomorrow. It's a bit of an unusual color palette, but I think it's very elegant. After that it will be time to finish Locked Away!

Oh, and Chris is awesome because he bought me 4 issues of Steampunk Magazine. I am a happy little geek.

Staying home, getting things done.

I decided to skip D&D today so I could try to get better, and also get some things done here at home. I'm glad that I did, because it is such a beautiful day and I have a nice breeze blowing in through my front window. Even with being sick, I don't feel bad, because everything else is just right. Perfect temperature, wearing my favorite jeans, a happy cat in my lap, and Dead Can Dance on iTunes.

Spring arrived rather suddenly here in Tucson, and caught me off-guard. One day I was wearing long-sleeved tees, the next I was digging around trying to find my tanktops because once again, the living room was turning into an oven during the afternoon. I just hope that Summer doesn't arrive fast on its heels. This weather is so pleasant, I want it to at least stick around long enough for me to go to Renaissance Faire and not get heat stroke.

After I do some much-needed housework, I'm hoping to finally start beading again. I hate sitting around, not making anything, when I have so much cool, inspirational stuff around me.

Last night we went out and saw "In Bruges." It was really, really good. Sometimes I was sitting there wondering if I liked the movie, because some of the humor was off, and some of the scenes really seemed quite random. But then it all pulled together at the end and I was all "Wow!" It's only playing on one screen in all of Tucson, so I guess it has a pretty limited release. Everyone who was watching it at the same time as us really seemed to enjoy it, though. Please note that this is not the movie for you if you have a problem with cursing, or a little American-bashing. I'm not sure I've ever heard so much cursing in one movie.

The interesting thing to me about the film was that the trailer totally plays it off as a comedy, albeit a dark one with some gun fights. However, there's also some serious drama in there. Although at times I questioned the blend, overall it came across as pretty natural. "In Bruges" has the kind of comedy I prefer, which is to say, witty dialog that seems natural. I don't like forced situational comedy or physical comedy.

We also went to the CD store, where we found two QNTAL CDs, a Voltaire CD, an Ataraxia CD (I have no idea if I like them, but they were on Chris's list of bands to look for, and they were on the Lotus Eaters Dead Can Dance tribute CD), and another Nordic Roots collection. Please note that neither Chris nor I have any Nordic roots of which we are aware, but we do occasionally enjoy some good Nordic music. Garmarna and Varttina are both good, though I swear I can't tell them apart.

I suppose I should stop rambling on and go get to work!

Faerie Meadows and Faerie Movies.

This is my necklace Faerie Meadow. It features lampworked beads by Lois Oster. These beads were a sort-of custom order, as I needed 3 lentils and 5 spacers to make something similar to a necklace I'd already sold. I told her to make me something pretty in colors that I liked, maybe with some frit or something. This is what she came up with, and we're both quite pleased with them. The little flower drops are Thai silver, and I bought them at the 2007 gem show. It's only fair that they're in this necklace, as Lois is the one who enabled me to buy them! At the same time, I picked up the leaves that I used in Sylvan Jewels.

I've entered Faerie Meadow into Art Bead Scene's February Challenge -- Chains of Love. You should really check out the other entries, there's a lot of beautiful things. ABS continues to attract the attention of a lot of talented jewelry makers who are using the work of equally talented bead makers.

Last night, we saw The Spiderwick Chronicles. I'm not usually a fan of kid's movies, but they did a good job of allowing the film to have some dark and violent elements. I guess this may in part be because it's a Nickelodeon movie, when I was a kid they had some shows with horror themes and such, so I think they realize that kids can handle a little scariness and a little intensity.

The movie had some pretty cool graphics, and I loved the character designs for the faeries. My favorites were definitely the sylphs, which look like dandelion fluff until you see them up close. More importantly, they aptly illustrated the traditional personality of faeries -- alien, sometimes kind, sometimes malicious, always doing things for their own reasons.

Over all, I was a bit disappointed with how the movie played fast and loose with faerie lore, picking and choosing which bits it wanted to incorporate, and then re-interpreting it to suit the story. Most viewers won't even notice, of course, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine. The important thing is that the movie made the faeries awesome, and it may inspire kids and adults alike to research the lore on their own. I consider it a fascinating subject.

Writing time.

I've been in a very writing-y mood over the past few days, so I'm about to sit down with the laptop and either work on my current book, or work on notes for that other fantasy book that I keep struggling with. Either way, it will be good to get back into the swing of that, and hopefully it won't lead to more nights of staying up until 4am.

We just got done watching 3:10 to Yuma, which I didn't think was that great. Don't get me wrong, all the actors did a good job and such, I just didn't care. I'm not much of a Western person. I did watch The Proposition, but that had two things going for it: Nick Cave, and Australian accents. 3:10 to Yuma had neither.

Not a whole lot else happened this weekend. My ill-fated henchman died in D&D again, I got into a bit of a tiff with one of my fellow gamers about some tasteless jokes, and I read Laura McCabe's book and worked some more on my rivoli pendant. I'll probably finish it tomorrow.

Movies 'n' things.

Yesterday, Chris and I returned to our Friday date routine (previously interrupted by his new job and gem show). There were two new releases that we wanted to see for the movie part of our date: Jumper, and Spiderwick Chronicles. Well, due to timing, Jumper won out.

Jumper was everything I expected it to be, which is to say it was silly, shallow action entertainment. While I would have liked for the movie to go deeper into the characters and the central conflict, I knew that it wouldn't, because basically the film was just an excuse to have lots of teleport-heavy action sequences. I think it was a pretty interesting and realistic example of how people would use and abuse such an ability. I just wish that the characters had been a little more likable and believable. Well, that and I wish that almost every single cool scene hadn't already been shown in the trailers.

It's reached the point where too many trailers show you all of the best parts of the movie, and then when you actually go see the film, it just fills in the blanks and establishes a chronological order. There's no longer that "WOW!" moment of seeing an awesome sequence on the big screen, because you've already seen it over and over again in the teaser.

That's why Cloverfield still stands out as an example of an excellent trailer, despite being a lousy movie. The trailer told you everything you needed to know: there's some people at a party in NY. Their party gets ruined by a monster attacking Manhattan. Chaos and madness ensue. If you wanted to see the monster and the chaos, you had to go see the movie.

I think another example of a pretty good marketing campaign (despite having not seen the movie!) was I Am Legend. The animated shorts were designed to set the tone of the film, and give you an idea of the backstory, without giving away all the good parts of the movie itself.

Anyway, I did have fun watching Jumper, and while it could have been better, it wasn't a huge waste of time.

After that, we went to the bookstore where I picked up that Laura McCabe book on beading with crystals, mainly rivolis. It looks pretty awesome, and I might take it to gaming today to read while things are slow. As I've mentioned before, the lighting there is too bad to really bead all night, I end up with a nasty headache.

I'm hoping that if I pick up one beading book a month, that I'll catch up with everything I've missed and not fall too far behind on the publishing schedule. I also want to pick up some sewing books, I saw some pretty good looking ones at B&N last night. I might fill out my polymer book selection, too. Not that I have room for the books I have, so most of this will have to wait until I move into a house and can have more bookcases than I have now.
