Stupid Post Office

As I've mentioned, this has been a somewhat crummy week. As such, I was really looking forward to receiving my package o' beads and using them to make beautiful things. Today I went out to the mailbox, certain that my beads would be there. And what did I find instead? An orange "sorry we missed you" slip. I would like to point out four problems with this:

1: The package would probably fit in my mailbox.
2: If not, there are two boxes for packages, and they were not in use.
3: It's a beautiful day and it's not very far to walk from the mailbox to my apartment and give me my package!
4: I was home all day, so they can't claim they missed me.

So now, instead of having fun beads to play with, I get to go to the PO tomorrow -- 11 days before Christmas -- and wait in line to get my package. This means that I will not be able to include anything with these new beads in tomorrow's update. Maybe I'll just update on Sunday and have a super last-minute buy these now for the holidays post. How does that sound?

Speaking of Last Minute, you can use code lastmin for 15% off your order until December 16th. It's not too late to shop! All items will be mailed by Dec 17th, and I will upgrade them to Priority to try to make sure they arrive on time.

Gotta leave for my Chinese final in 1 1/2 hours. I'm unsure on how well I'll do -- it all depends on what words are on the test. There are some that I know as well as English now, and some which just won't stick in my head. However, my grade so far is really high, so I can afford to miss a few things and still get an A. As such, I refuse to stress about this test... I'm stressing about too many other things!

  1. You're probably back from the final -- I hope you did well!

I know what you mean about the post office. I was waiting for a box from Amazon (three mmpbs from Charlie Stross and a CD) and as I left the condo on Monday, I saw the mail truck at our clusterboxes so I stopped and got mine. It wasn't our regular mail lady and I said to the guy that I was expecting an Amazon box. He said "what number?" and I told him and he said "no." So I get home, check the tracking and it said something like "delivery attempted." !! The next day, when I opened the front door, the package (and another) were on my upper ramp. My mail lady just leaves me packages there when she sees the van in its parking spot.

  2. I rocked that final! :D I didn't do perfect, but I am very confident that I am still in 'A' territory. Chris did well, too!

A few people on the business forum I'm on have been complaining about USPS problems and they make mine small in comparison... but I'm still not looking forward to waiting in line tomorrow >.< When we went there on Monday, we had to wait 10 mins in line just to use the automated machine.

  3. Good for you and Chris!

I've had to wait a few minutes at an APC, but once I got there and some woman was putting through 30-some (I didn't know how many she'd put in the receptacle already) individual packages. I could tell it would take less time to wait in line, and indeed, I was on my way out when she still had 30 or so.

  4. The woman ahead of us in line last time was in an endless loop of saying that she wanted insurance, entering $1, canceling, then the next time it asked if she wanted insurance, she'd say yes, put in $1... all I can guess is maybe she wanted to say $100 and kept not putting enough zeros in? It was really annoying.

  5. Well, you pay the same for $1 and $100, so that can't be it. Maybe she thought she was supposed to put in the fee, which isn't a dollar either, but closer to right idea. I can't tell you how many people I've helped at the machine.
